Para Helmet

I'm getting a Mk6 Kevlar Helmet this month with a DPM Cover. The elastic straps are in tatty condition so I thought I'd take them off and make the helmet up to look like a Para Helmet.
The only problem I've come across so far is doing the tape at the rim of the helmet, namely because I have no idea how it's done or what is used.

From this picture it looks like something made of rubber, but I just wanted to make sure before I go and spent some money.

BTW, you should get a cam/scrim net for your helmet.

Does it not make sense to just get another one instead of doing the alteration?

Was I bidding on it? No, I got myself a helmet in outsize (that's the biggest one made). Very nice, I hope to pick it up in the next couple days.
And I plan to buy a scrim net from surplus and just cut it down to the size I need. Otherwise I'll hunt for another cover (it's really hard finding covers in outsize).

In your photo see one helmet cover with removed elastic, fix with rubber band and on this one pasgt helmet band (i think add this for glint of band)
