Replacement fan for Revision Desert Locust
Just wanted to give anyone who has issues with their Revision Desert Locust Fan not working a heads up.
I bought a pair used and couldn't get the fan to start no matter what I did. Took the screws at the fan housing off and the fan dropped out with the red wire disconnected. Looks like red wire had come off the solder point at the fan due to movement (the goggles are always being flexed when you take them off, put them on, adjust them... etc.) I tried soldering them back on (I have a good variable temp soldering iron with multiple tips so I used my small tip for circuit board soldering) and it still wouldn't work. So I pull out my voltage meter and check at the wires at the fan and it's reading the correct voltage so I figure what happened was the wires shorted when the red wire fell off and burned the motor out. So I go searching for a new fan.... found the exact fan that Revision uses on ebay. Little pricey at $20 shipped but better than buying a new set of goggles. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/271449430679?...84.m1497.l2649 The new one on the left and old one on the right. Just wanted to let anyone else who has had the fan burn out a quick link to a replacement. Hope it helps! |

what are the physical measurements on the fan? digikey probably stocks a similar sized fan for much cheaper.

The fan is 15mm x 15mm x 3mm. Just checked digikey and it's $15.60 USD for a sunon of the same dimensions but all plastic.
I did notice that larger fans such as 25mm x 25mm x 5mm are quite a bit cheaper during my searching. Under $5 for many of them. I think it's due to the extremely small size of the fan that they are so expensive. Smaller than a dime. Thanks for the reference though. |

Cool thanks for sharing. I have one of these goggles so this may come in handy in the future.

As a note, I did contact Revision first and the customer service agent told me they don't sell just the fan then said that she would send the request to technical assistance and get back to me. That was 4 weeks ago and no response yet.
I'm wondering if they know about the issue and just don't want to deal with it? |

Thanks for info. Removed the foam off my revisions in conjunction with thermal lenses + high fan setting. Tested in CQB, no fog at all. |
