Downgrading Gearbox V3 spring
Hello,
Planning to downgrade my G36 spring since it's firing too hot for a local CQB arena. I have an M100 spring ready to go into the gear box. While I am at it, or soon after, I would like to shim and re-grease my gearbox. Wondering if these guides correctly instruct on the process: V3 Taking apart: V3 Mechbox Spring Upgrade Specific to G36 disassemble: How To Disassemble a Version 3 Gearbox Diagram: Ak V3 diagram Shimming: Airsoft Tech Talk: How To Shim A Gearbox G36 specific shimming Shimming g36 I am familiar with precision work and disassembling/reassembling complex setups (CPU, Auto, electrical). Just wondering if any Winnipegers have local sources for shims, oil/grease (what brand) etc. Any extra tips would be helpful. Don't expect anyone to watch/read all these, just recognize useful/key ones, or suggest others. Thanks! |

what is your local field limit? a m100 spring may shoot over 360fps
bevel to pinion is really easy on a v3. But just shim the bevel high enough to meet the pinion but still have a little bit of looseness to it. Don't shim it tight to the pinion. If you have a piston bearing and a spring guide bearing and you're shooting 360 and want less.. you can remove the piston bearing (sometimes there's just a spacer) the whole piston bearing or shim can take 30fps out of the spring. If you have a bearing each piece of it is worth 10fps or so. The spring is less compressed so it will generate less power. Only do that if you have 2 bearings. If the piston bearing is your only one, then it's better to just get a 90 spring.

Arena limit is 350 FPS (indoor course).
Right now I'm shooting at ~365. My research tells me the m100 should bring me between 320-350fps. However, you're saying if I shim etc I might then gain some FPS back? |

He is saying if you want to shim your gear box, use the bevel shimming method where you start with aligning the bevel and pinion gear perfectly. But leave a small amount of play with the bevel gear.
Removing the bearings in the piston will help reduce the fps slightly because the spring will not be as compressed as if the bearings were in the piston. |

Ahh! I see. I will be taking it apart next week to see what I can do

So, The Lonex spring that I have doesn't have the same end as the stock spring. The stock one (below) had a piece that snakes around a plastic piece that screws into the face of the piston.
Is it necessary to have this plastic pice installed? The lonex spring is the length of the stock spring and plastic piece combined. |

If you want your piston head to stay on, yes you need that piece.

The screw still screws through into the face of the piston cylinder without it, but I guess that might not be enough threads.
So then I don't have the right spring, bc it doesn't have a tip that snakes around that plastic piece. I also need a metal spring guide, bc the plastic one broke when it got away from me and bounced off my monitor while putting it back together... |

you will need a new piston/piston head assembly.. the thing on that spring is from a marui oem gearbox. There aren't any springs on the market that will accept that plug.

Ahh. I see. This seems to be a Frankenstein build bc the gears are JG.

JG could still be using it, their old g36s are a marui clone

Downgrading Gearbox V3 spring
Wow, so many parts trying to spring out while trying to close the gear box.
But it's completed. Spring downgraded, shimmed, cleaned & greased. The local shop sold me these: Wasn't too sure about the lube. Didn't think I needed 3 different types (cylinder/bearing/gear). Thanks for the help! Last edited by Aragrev7; August 19th, 2014 at 00:36.. |
