Is it just me?

Ok, throwing this out, as I asked a few others already.

Is it just me, or if you are good at rebuilding gearboxes, the ONLY gearboxes (rebuilds) that go lightning fast are other peoples?

So what I mean is if you are the guy who fixes all your buddies guns, they all get fixed ridiculously quick--issue free---but if its yours, it turns into a shit show more often than not!

I just rebuilt yet ANOTER version 2 of a friends. Top down. I could have been half watching a hockey game with a beer in one hand for Christ sakes. Shimmed perfect FIRST try....absolutely ZERO drama.

What the hell gives????

Go...

My favorite one:

All done-all looking good. Ready to put motor (high torque) in. Motor leads have screws....and your guessed it.

When you are screwing on the leads one of the screws jump out and get sucked onto the abyss of the motor cage.

Wonderful......clap.....clap.....clap.....bravo... ...

I have cracked my window removing the stock spring from one of my V2 mechboxes(back when the fps ruling was higher) i stupidly forgot to stick a allen wrench/screwdriver into the spring guide while doing the disassembly, thankfully I work in a glass shop so no real harm done.

i've lost a spring guide in my room, hell knows where its gotten to.

I have walked away from assembling a mechbox, played call of duty and found the 12 year old cussing kids to be less frustrating then the 20 minute battle I had with the mechbox.

Spring guides are evil.
I hate them.
and they hate me

for shit being dicks and popping out when you're trying to put the gearbox halves together... get some little neodymium magnets. they're usually strong enough to pull the gears and ARL down to the bottom half so the only things you need to worry about is the spring guide/piston/cylinder and the trigger.. everything else just stays put.

I hate v2s. trigger is fuct? got to strip the gearbox empty... selector plate broken? got to strip the gearbox empty to get the safety off... cutoff lever worn? got to strip the gearbox empty. try putting a fucking mosfet in the buffer tube and dealing with that fucking screw and screw plate... fuck you v2.

at least with v3 you can change the selector and the cutoff without having to pull it all apart... don't have to disassemble the entire lower to get the gearbox out.

v6 you can do that and you don't need to open the gearbox to replace the trigger.

I used to think I wanted a G36...then I tried to assemble one.
that m-f'ing trigger.

yes you have to strip V2s bare for the tiniest things, but ARLs and trigger springs are nothing with the power of magnets.

I have an aug gearbox sitting in pieces because everytime I get the urge to fix it Im reminded how much I hate the trigger mech on them...

I used to hate digging into my gearboxes until I got my ics... now its actually fun.

My King arms Galil doesn't have hole in the gearbox shell to hold the spring guide with a screw driver. Needless to say it went flying the last time I took it apart. It almost caused me a heart attack when the damn thing missed the screen of my wacom cintiq by a few inches, lol

I feel somewhat spoiled to have gotten an ICS M4 as my first rifle, as far as the gearbox is concerned. Just finished regreasing the thing, no issues, all in all it felt extremely satisfactory and relatively simple. The split design is an absolute blessing.

The hop unit on the other hand... I seem to have no luck with this thing. Been struggling to get mine shooting decently for months, went through three (soon to be four) buckings, tried teflon/o rings to help increase air seal, switched barrels, etc etc. Just about everything went wrong. Then the frame itself started developing hairline cracks, and I can't stress enough that I'm not at all rough with this stuff. I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just order a whole new unit and discard the current one as some sort of satanic deviance.

and that is why my airsoft has a work bench in the basement away from everything.

That can be fixed easily with a drill...
