Check the state laws for Montana on ballistic armour. In some states, only US MIL/LE are allowed to own/be in possession of body armour (including ballistic helmets)

You know you need permit to own body armour in BC right? Import, no problem. Export...depends and possession without permit....illegal

I went into the store (No names) I bought it without any questions and the Store sells to Police/LE and sells body armour with people from licenses, from my knowledge. Im guessing its because they knew it was used/expired.

Since the thread is related to the border and an ACH, it's not a reply to the OP but, importing a real ACH into Canada fine? I've been considering getting a real one from the States but had no clue if it would go through (as mentioned with the permit of owning armor and whatnot).

Well you can tell the police about that and see what happens, chances are it's not good. There's no such thing as expired body armor. A properly maintained one can still works even after warranty. Manufacture simply put expiry date so that user will replace it (especially if they don't properly maintain it) |

Read this.
http://www.bclaws.ca/EPLibraries/bcl...de/00_09024_01 Regardless of Montana's law's on Body Armour, which seem pretty lax from what I can find on the intardweb. You have in your possession an ITAR restricted item in the eye's of the Montana government. Don't get caught with it at the border Homeland security can legally take it away from you because the ACH 2000 Is still on the ITAR restricted listing.

Q: What does Sunlight and UV exposure do to Carbon? A: Degrades it. Q:When Kevlar is mixed with other synthetic materials what happens? A: Kevlars structure begins to degrade the structures around it purely down to it construction. North face used to make a Mountaineering Sack with Kevlar stitching. The pack was made of 1000D Nylon. I lost my sack after the kevlar stitching destroyed the surrounding fabric. Yes, Level 3A armour and below has a shelf life. I know this because I was an active end user. SAPI's have a shelf life. Think about why.

As for degradation, there's a reason why body armor's Kevlar are not sewn into the vest but rather its own insert. |
