1st Chechen War, Russian Impression
I took this loadout for a spin today, It was bloody freezing, the Ushanka and fur collar were not for show.
the Russians were still using Soviet stock at this time, hence the Afghan chest-rig and the old style RD-54 Back pack (marked 1995). The boots are the VDV Para Jack boots with foot wraps (nice and toasty warm!) The medic satchel I use for carrying spare batteries, BB's water etc, we were moving to another playing area, its not part of the loadout. The coat is unfortunately the commercial version, the fur collar on the army type is the same grey colour as the Ushanka. The wires and headset are unfortunately a necessity for team communications! The RPK74 flash hider was meant to be a RPK74 birdcage version, but unfortunately the bbs would hit on the inner barrel and explode as the left the muzzle! Will have some filing to do....

Great setup, Beastor! Although it's probably more fitting to date it as "Second Chechen War" as the Flora camo and especially the insulated Bushlat jackets didn't really in any significant numbers before 1997. By the way, this same very setup can be easily called "Modern" too as the new 6B38 personal infantry/naval infantry/spetsnaz/VDV equipment won't be issued en mass for a while yet.
Here's a lot of info with pictures (in Russian only, sorry), check out the other pages in that thread too: http://www.airsoftgun.ru/phpBB/viewt...=asc&start=640 EDIT: contains graphic images [thanks for pointing it out, Beastor] Last edited by Igor01; November 17th, 2008 at 22:30.. |

Thanks for the encouraging feedback guys,
and thanks for the link Igor01, the thread is a excellent source (all the new Russian digi-cam looks especially cool) but the pics of the poor dead Georgian soldiers were a bit gruesome! I am glad to know my loadout is more modern than I thought, I didnt realise that the russian army still used the older type of battle gear! (not that it is a bad thing, I love the Soviet issue stuff: hard wearing and comfortable)

Nice link, I assume the Chechen forces have the same kit as the russian forces, just different patches?

The First Chechen War (years 1994-1996) was completely without Flora camouflage.
In Russian Airborne, unlike Soviet Airborne, RD54 was worn unattatched to belts (unofficially, of course) as common soldier preferance. Your winter set may be commercial model but having black collar instead of grey doesn't mean it's commercial. Army issues these winter uniforms with black collars too. Generally, these "fish-fur" collars are only on winter uniforms from Soviet era to mid 1990's. I'm glad to see another "bra" user. ![]()

Yeah I got stung for use of Flora on Red Alliance a few years back (this is a older post) I now have some very nice VSR with Naval Infantry patches, I will be using the "bra" with this and a simple belt and gas mask satchel for the coming winter!

Demichev this is how I wear my Flora now.
First pic is a 2nd or 3rd Chechen conflict with (admitedly rare at the time 6sh92 vest) for my winter flora gear, 2nd pic is my more modern Summer look with the same gear. ![]() ![]()

It's nice!
The colours in your second photo really bring out that "Russian War" atmosphere we fight to reconstruct! =)
