how do you protect

i think i saw it somewhere, but cant find it now, someone said that after a while the red by the selector switch for semi & full auto wears away. so is there a spray or something to protect it a bit.

I'm assuming you're talking about a G36, since that's your avatar picture, but you may want to poont out what you're talking about, if you want people to help you.

There isn't really a "spray" to protect paint... in theory you could clearcoat it, but that wouldn't be very desireable. If you really do find the paint wearing away, you can always re-apply some yourself later. This really isn't a big deal though...

I don't really think there's anything you can do. Fact of the matter is that little catch on the selector is metal, the receiver is plastic....It's going to wear regardless of what you would spray on there. Unless of course you made the reciever out of vespel or something. :wink:

You could apply a light coat of clear finish with a finishing brush, so that it won't be noticeable. But eventually the clearcoat will come off as well... Use scotch tape over the markings :lol:

Or you could mix up a small batch of epoxy and Very Thinly! spread it ontop of what you want to protect. It'll be rock solid and fairly smooth (Unless you put way too much air into it when mixing).... it might be a bit too shiny though and might contrast the matt black of the gun a bit too much

From the ones that I have handled, the coloured marking isn't painted onto flat metal, the paint is in a recess in the receiver. It's as if it the metal was stamped

The only way to wear that off is if you continuously poked into that recess with something abrasive.

Yes.. but it takes a long time.. and it depends on how well maintained the weapon is .. and where it is used.

As mentioned.. such markings are typically stamped into the metal .. then highlighted with paint. so they can't just rub off.

neat. The best solution would be then to engrave the airsoft versions. God luck on that. Unless you are really really good with a dremel.
