rifle help

ok so i am well aware that their is no such thing as the best company that makes the best gun, and that it is all personal preference, i am just looking for some help to see if i screwed up huge or just slightly. about a month ago i went to buyairsoft.ca and bought a g&g cqb-r m4 metal upper receiver tinted polymer lower receiver i spent well over $400 on it like an idiot because i did no research ...yes im stupid i know and i have read a solid 7-10 hours on this forum about rifle info buying info and every other type of info i could find regarding my first gun. I am just wondering if any one can tell me if it was a good first buy or not

plz dont flame me to hard
thx in advance

For the money its decent, the piston head is terrible, other than that its an okay rifle. I have a G&G GR16, Standard one, half decent.
Just remember you can customize it to your liking, improve it and make it your own.
My rifle doesnt look like a G&G anymore.

THis: Airsoft AEG G&G GR16 M16 Receiver Disassembly Take Down by AirSplat - YouTube Will take you down to the gearbox, fyi, The middle pin though is a b*tch, took me 2 hours to knock it out.

This: http://www.mechbox.com/mechbox/v2-me...g-upgrade.html
Will show you how to replace any part you need to in your gearbox.

IF you have trouble, or dont feel as if you can do it, contact a gun doc in your area: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...hlight=Gun+doc In this thread.

Some good brands are,
Modify
Prometheus
Systema? (mixed reports)
Airsoft Research Syndicate (ARS)

Keep in mind Polycarb piston heads are probably your best bet apposed to metal ones.

Try to shop in Canada, helps out the retailers here

There IS a best company that makes the best gun, it's a systema PTW and it's about $1800 lol
G&P would be second coming in at 650-800 new

You didn't buy a horrible gun, you just need to get rid of some of those horrible stock parts. Typically all AEG's, no matter how much you spend, perform only adequately brand new. There's ALWAYS something that needs to be upgraded internally.
Once you become a veteran, you'll realize that the only thing that matters on a new airsoft gun is the quality of the body, because you're going to be replacing all the internals anyway!

imo there is a better starter gun for almost half the price, (VA m4) but you've already bought it, so you can only live with it and enjoy it for what it is. Having regrets now would be pretty useless.

Does it shoot? go have fun till it breaks.

When it breaks, fix it and make it better so it shoots again... go have more fun till it breaks again or you decide you want to move on, rinse, repeat.

If you add optics or anything else to it and mags... those can carry forward to your next gun depending what you get... look at it this way: The gun is a wear and tear item, much like a car, but with possibly a far shorter lifespan. And just like a car, it's a money pit because of upkeep or maintenance. Money you put in, you'll never get back if you sell it, so you can only enjoy it for what it is, and what you put into it.

At some point, you will have to come to a decision to either sell it or retire it because cost of maintaining it is getting higher or you aren't finding it enjoyable anymore... just like a car.

Welcome to the club, most players buy a G&G as their first Airsoft, their is a lot worse. The good news is that you got an M4 and it's compatible with tokyo marui (TM). Since most hi-end companies are compatible with TM you can change almost anything that breaks for something better.

My advice, dont change anything, use this Airsoft to learn more about the sport and the technology. When it breaks fix it if it's not too expensive, if it's not broken dont mess with it. Eventually it will either become a Frankenstein with parts from a few select manufacturers like Systema (Gearbox) or it will become your second airsoft to loan to friends or you will sell it to finance the purchase of a better airsort.

Most players buy the wrong airsoft and sell it off after their first season anyway. So stop bashing yourself, you have stumbled into the secret airsoft club.

Take care and learn from your mistakes young padawan;P

My first gun was the G&G GR16 R5. I was pretty happy with it overall. I found the part(s) I liked the least about it was the hop-up. The biggest problem I've found with G&G's in general so far is their tendency to have annoying proprietary externals.

In the end (or actually a year later) I tore it apart and used it to build two completely new guns so I can't really comment on how it works with a few upgrades.

G&G is actually an ok starter gun. Though you paid more for it then you really should have. If you were AV'ed you could get a new full black G&G M4 for easily $350, maybe less, in the classifieds. But it will serve you alright on the field. And it is TM compatible so it's easily upgradable. buyairsoft.ca is not the best place to buy anything. Not only are they over-priced but there have been lots of complaints from other ASC members about getting dicked around by them. If you actually received your gun in working condition and in a timely manner then feel lucky. In the future it'd be best to do your homework first so you know what to buy and from whom.
