TM P90 400 fps upgrades

So... tried to do some homework, but by no means am I a tech so I thought I better get some help here. If possible, I want to buy all parts in one order, which is why I've got links from redwolf so far, which I've ordered from before without issue. Any suggestions on retailers would be appreciated too.

I am going for a P90 that will work fairly well for outdoor use (yes, I know, odd isn't it?). That means I want to take it to 380-430fps range, which seems to be the moderate competitive range out here. So far I have put an extended barrel into it, which is hidden in the TR's stock silencer. I noticed that the extended barrel reduced the fps a fair amount as well. I had a retailer in Calgary shim up the gearbox and add metal bushings. In terms of reliability, its working well, but it is shooting under 300fps. The Systema M120S spring is pegged at approximately 422fps on the spring chart on this website.

EDIT: Parts list was totally off.

Do I need all the parts I chose, do I need more, are there better alternatives?

You are best served with a full tune up kit like the one linked below. Pick the brand that best serves your budget. Keeping in my that each brand has it's own sets of flaws. Their are MANY FTK's (full tune up kits)

http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...Expert_Set.htm

Guarder
Modify
G&P
Systema
Prometheus
Jing Gong rama lama ding dong
and many more

Given the brands above I would advise you go with Prometheus or Modify. If it was my gun, I would custom build from the ground up, probably use a Prometheus FTK to replace the old TM parts and sell the gears and get siegeteks.

The stock TM gears will not last very long with a M120 spring, the bushings will not be able to handle the stress of the additional load from the spring and gears and if those fail the gears fail, as possible the tappet plate.

I use Prometheus Hard pistons in my guns or the System Supercore. Modify makes decent pistons at all the price ranges as do some other brands. You will want a V2 Piston, with a half rack of metal teeth. You will want a set of bearings on the piston head.

The Battery compartment for the P90 is very small. I recommend LiPO power 11.1v. AEG's that are shooting ~400fps In my opinion should have a MOSFET and be running SubC sized cells for best performance not AA or 2/3a (again my opinion but almost everyone runs 2/3a in some cases it's required due to space constraints but that excuse went out the door when LiPO/LiFePO became cheap). You realize that the J type battery requires you to mod your back plate cover and the plate that screws down the gearbox?

If you are going to Lithium power I do recommend replacing the wiring with some quality 12-14awg milspec wire. You will want to anyways if you are installing a MOSFET.

Motor, It's fine, but you don't NEED that motor. The stock TM motor will do the job as will some other brands such as Tienly, G&P 160 etc. You won't see anything near near the maximum power or potential of that motor with the battery you have selected. The Magnum doesn't get to show off whats under the hood until you start pulling M150++ and/or with 10.8v++ power sources. If you are going Magnum motor I highly recommend you do the insulation mod.

Go with the type 0 cylinder. You have extended the barrel length of the gun and the cylinder that you selected will not have the volume of air available for you to get the velocities that you are asking.

Spring:
The spring chart is a bit out of date. It's decent guideline but it's certainly dated information.

If you go with just the parts that you originally posted your gun will cycle. But it may not last more than 10 shots or it may last 1000 or so. The TM gears are certainly not up to the task of M120, and the bushings should be replaced ASAP.

Based on the FTK you reccomended, I was pretty far off, which is why I asked lol. I actually meant to put an L-type battery (not J) there. I do not wish to mod the back plate, as it seems there is very little extra space that could be gained.

Two quick questions:

Like I said, I had my gearbox shimed, and had new metal bushings put in. Are replacements still recommended?

I would need a new charger for a LiPo battery, correct?

You can get a extended back end for the P90. I can't remember what it's called on the HK websites but it's alike a rubber condom that fits over the back end and allows you use use larger batteries. I have never used it since I went LiPo, but that option is available. You may want to PM illusion as I am sure he has seen or installed those and can tell you what they can fit inside.

When you install the new gears you will need to have the gearbox re-shimmed for the new gearset. If you have metal bushing installed already you are fine.

LiPo batteries need a balance lead and requires it. I suggest you go to a RC shop and buy a charger. They range in price from 30-200 dollars. If you are not a serious RC enthusiast then the 30-50 dollar solution will get the job done. DO NOT buy (my opinion) an airsoft branded lipo charger. They offer poor to no value for the money compared to a charger you can find in a RC shop.

Forgot to mention. DEANS ultra connector or EC3 connectors for a quality LiPo pack. You will not regret going LiPo. It does require some maintenance and care but a quality lipo pack from Reedy/Zippy costs 20-30 dollars compared to the 40-60 I have seen for 9.6v 2/3a batteries that retailers are asking.

My opinion. Don't buy airsoft branded lipo/lifepo. Again, the offer very little value for the money in. I regret buying the firefox/hotpower and various other airsoft branded packs. They under perform to their specifications.

First question: why a goal of 400 fps?
Second question: is the cylinder matched to your barrel lenght?
Thrid question: what barrel was installed?

Imo you're spending a whole lot for not mutch gain. Higher fps does NOT equal greater range or accuracy. After 10 yeas tweaking guns my favorite setup goes something like this:

Tabio koba twist tight bore barrel
Metal bushings
Promotheus m100 spring
.25 quality bbs

Period. Give you a nice constant 330 fps low stress on the gearbox, battery life, gears and piston. The range and accuarcy is on par with any other gun I've owned that had shot around 400. When the piston and gears finaly give way ( 3-4 seasons down the road) replace with systema piston and high torque gears.

For battery I'm still old school ni/cads but apparently the lipos are turning out ok.

For upgrade parts I only recommend systema and promotheus. The rest well I'va had good and shitty from everyone else but alvays the same quality over a long while wih these two.

You've now got me looking at:
http://redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/ai...andard_Set.htm

M100, which the description pegs at 330fps.

The barrel is: 6.03 TB, 433mm. I am going to assume that my cylinder does not match the barrel length... that is something I had not read about up to this point.

I was aiming for around 400fps because that seems to be an approximate standard for guys on the outdoor fields here. If I can get a good range shooting .25g's with less strain on the gear box then I am all for it.

If I am going for 330-360fps, then what am I now looking at considering I also have the longer barrel installed. This suddenly got a lot more complicated than I expected, but I'm trying to learn this all quick! Thank you for the criticism thus far

I'd say put in a new spring, metal bushings, and run it. Maybe a bearing spring guide as well.
My stock TM AUG ran fine for quite a long time with just those upgrades. (400fps)

My P90 has been running fine since i upgraded about 2 months ago. M130 spring, metal bushings, bearing spring guide and i still run the original EG1000 hyper or whatever it is called. With a 20C 11.1V lipo this thing is like a laser

Ok, will this adhere to the laws of physics and give me around 340+ fps without compromising anything else in my gearbox? Remember, my p90's barrel is now at 433mm inside the silencer.

Systema (FTK25) Full Tune Up Kit P90 Standard, with a 4/5 hole cylinder replacement.

This contraption would also still be able to use my 8.4v 1200mah batteries, right?
