Lubricant - Wynns Silicone Lubricant Slick n Shine
Hey all,
I am new on here and new to airsoft. I'm having a hard time finding silicone lubricant for my airsoft gun maintenance...most Canadian online stores are sold out, and the ones that arent only have the small bottles of silicone lub. I am looking for an aerosol spray. I've done alot of reading, and the one big thing that i have found is the lubricant CANNOT have petroleum based products (Petrolium Distillates). So I have searched everywhere...and came across one that seems to fit the bill, and wanted some input from all of you. WYNN'S MULTI USE SILICONE LUBRICANT - SLICK 'N SHINE. From back of can; LUBRICATES sliding doors, sliding windows, curtain rods, drawers, hinges, locks, zippers, knitting and sewing machines. WATERPROOFS electrical systems. PROTECTS chrome, brass, aluminum, leather, plastic, rubber, vinyl, guns, fishing tackle, sports equipment, tools, footwear, tire sidewalls, and numerous automotive applications. FIRST AID TREATMENT Contains heptane, isobutane and propane. If swallowed, call poison control centre or doctor immediately. Do not induce vomiting ........ I checked the Material Safety Data Sheet for this product, and the Hazardous contains are the same as listed under first aid treatment. No sign of Petroleum products. This was the only comment of issue with other substances; INCOMPATIBILITY TO OTHER SUBSTANCES .................YES IF SO, WHICH ONES?............................................. ...........ACTIVE METALS, STRONG OXIDIZERS. The Material Safety Data link for this product is; http://www.wynns.ca/data/msds/english/wynns/52634.pdf I Apologize for so much info, however I thought if I included everything, it would be much easier to provide an accurate response and opinion. |

The small bottles are all you need. I bought 2 of the small bottles 2 years ago thinking I would be going through it fast.... but I have not even gone through a half bottle yet.
http://gungas.com/product_info.php?products_id=66 Why do you NEED it in an aerosol spray? Everywhere you need to put the stuff is accessible via Q-tip.

If you need Aerosol, go to a motorcycle shop and pick up some Amsoil Multi-Purpose Silicone Spray, I've seen it at most places. http://www.worldsbestoil.ca/silicone-spray.php

Thanks for the info. No luck finding the amsoil. As for the question on "why aerosol?" it's a personal preference.
So does anyone have an opinion or input on the wynn's I mentioned in the original message?? |

I looked at the material Chemical data sheet on the amsoil everyone recommended , and the propellant in this is the same as the Wynn's (Propane and Butane).
With that said I think I am going to go with the Wynn's. as it is easily obtained in my area. Thanks all. |

Propane is used in GBB's and GBBR's. It is not an issue to use it as the propellant.
All of the suggested lubes are safe to use. Many many people have used them with no issues. As you stated, you are new, why bother ask if you're not going to listen to recommendations made? Why must it be in aerosol form? What exactly are you using it for? For mechboxes, it will be too thin. For GBB/R's it's quite messy to spray when only a drop or two are needed. |

Well to answer your questions, I did listen and read everyones recommendations. No one commented on the product I asked about, which was the purpose of the post. I didn't post to get recommendations on other products, as I have already read that in other forums.
I have a gbb, and aerosol Is as I stated earlier a personal preference. Not quite sure why I am getting your attitude, rather than an answer to my question. Thanks to everyone else for your help. |

how is the wynn's holding up for you? I was having the same problem finding something in my area and the wynn's was all i could find.. 190G for 6 bucks was a hell of a lot better then the 10-16 + shipping I found for alternatives online. I also checked the MSDS and back of the label and am hoping this does the trick.. Just came online to see if anyone else had asked this question and have yet to find a definable answer.

I've sent Wynn an email and will post their response so everyone can have a definite answer.

I got a reply withing 30 minutes. They said the product is virtually 100% silicone minus the heptane, isobutane, propane and, mineral spirits used because it's an aerosol.
Should I be concerned with a 5% mineral spirit content? |
