Are we allowed to use or make them to bring to the field ??

Depends on the field rules. Homemade smoke is probably a no-no, unless you can devise your own cold smoke.

Typically no....but there is a time and place for everything.

The only 100% certain thing is....confirm with the host before sparking one up.

Home made pyro is illegal in Canada. It's against the Explosives Act.

Most smoke is created using Sugar, Salt Peter and Baking Soda. And are not toxic at all.

Although I cannot with any certainty say that making and using a Smoke pot would be legal, although they are not explosives they could be controlled or otherwise prohibited. You'd have to ask someone with greater legal knowledge.

As a footnote to that, while KNSU (Potassium Nitrare/Sucrose) smokes aren't severely toxic (combustion produces Potassium Carbonate, an irritant), the mixture can/does burn upwards of 1000 degrees C (depending on the O/F ratio) and will easily ignite most things which aren't fire retardants, not to mention cause nearly instantaneous severe burns.

Generally speaking they aren't safe for game use.

And that seems to be especially true if put in an thin aluminium can :P

The real stuff is dangerous enough, never mind the kitchen chemistry stuff. Do you really want to be the guy with a glass eye, or three fingers?

You can get "cold" burning smokes from anyplace that sells boats and gear. Cold just means no open flame, the container still gets hot enough to spark a fire in dry tinder.

Coloured smoke is a true no go. Did some research online and almost every chemical used to colour the smoke is toxic (I dont know how the military does it)

Ok. What part of this is illegal in Canada don't people get? If you manufacture a pyrotechnic or explosive devise in Canada without a licence and appropriate approvals, you have violated the Explosives Act, a criminal offense. No discussion of illegal activites is permitted on this forum.
