HELP! CA/Magpul MOE sportline
I was online and I found the Classic Army/Magpul MOE sportline rifle. It's a CA sportline model with Magpul MOE PTS furniture. My real steel AR15 is completely done with flat dark earth Magpul parts and I want my airsoft rifle to match visually and have the same feel so I can get some simulated tactical training. I understand the rifle will be really light weight but i'm more concerned with the overall rifle having the same parts. Anyway my dilemma is the sportline model only fires 320 fps. I play mostly outdoors and this will not do. I want to modify it over time to get it firing rougly 400 fps. What's the best way to get the rifle firing 400fps without breaking the bank?

Just get a spring swap, it shouldn't cost you any more than 25-30$ for the spring+labor, even less if you do it yourself.

thanks for the quick reply Spike. Can the standard internals of the CA sportline handle 400 fps?

Upgrade it to 360-380 fps FPS doesn't equal range or accuracy, you don't need to pin it right at 400 Find a local gundoc to upgrade the gun You'll need a piston and likely a sorbo cylinder head at the very least. |

I have worked on several CA Sportline M4's. They have several issues that put them in the "less than 400fps league". A simple spring swap may work but will eventually be problematic.
Off the top of my head I can identify 2 areas that I would recommend to anyone who asked me to put a M120 spring in a CA Sportline: 1) Plastic spring guide must be replaced with a ball bearing spring guide 2) Nylon bushings must be replaced with steel bushings |

the Magpul G&P I found is like $350 and as far as I can tell is a superior weapon. My goal is to build the CA rifle to exceed the performance of the G&P without exceeding the price tag by sacrificing the metal receivers with plastic. My hope is to get a superior weapon and have $ leftover to buy the magpul asap, condor single point sling, magpul ranger plate, magpul vertical grip and mapul trigger guard I have on my real rifle.

G&P is so superior you can't even compare it to the sportline
Even left stock, and built properly, G&P guns out perform CA in every way shape and form However, don't even think of shooting the G&P before you shim the gears. I've seen unshimmed G&P guns last as short as 1 game, and properly shimmed G&Ps last as long as 3 years and 300,000 rounds with original stock parts. The only things you'll ever have to upgrade on a G&P (long term) are the gears, piston, piston head, and air nozzle. They've got some of the best stock motors, great stock 7mm bearings, steel spring guide, and a pretty good stock piston. Not to mention they've got the toughest metal bodies/mechbox shells around! Compared to a CA sportline which needs; inner barrel, hop rubber, air nozzle, piston, piston head, cylinder head, tappet plate, spring guide, spring, gears, bushings and a motor just to match the reliability of a shimmed G&P gun. |
