Walmart pellets = performance degradation?

Good morning!

Under the keen observational skills of my 6 year old son, I got some Walmart .2's for chrony testing, and he noticed that the finish is rough compared to the .25 bastards I game with and he also noticed they're a bit smaller than the bastards. I don't have a caliper to check but they do seem smaller.

Now I used the .2's for chronography would the finish and smaller size skew the chronograph results?

I'm thinking that if the pellets are smaller there would be pressure loss thus reducing barrel FPS?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Shayne

Ya, you'd get a screwed up result from using them. Might only be a 10fps difference or so, but that should really only be a concern if you are trying to get your gun as close to field max velocity (which reduces your headroom, especially since results can vary from day to day and from chrony to chrony).

that and they are not going to have the same consistency that a good brand will. So you might have some really small ones and than some good ones that make a seal. Also with the rough finish on them you could scuff your barrel if used to often.

Just order a bag of bastards *I use metal tech but I am in the west* .2g and keep them in your kit. They will last you forever but you will get a good consistent reading.

Dont use the CT BB's the rough finish will kill your hop-up rubber.

Only thing I will use CT BB's in is my nade.

Metal Tech/Airsoft Elite BB's are the best bang for your buck.

And yes I have used BBbastards for all you BBB's fan's out there.

If they are the bio BBs I would stop using them - they tear your hopup.

Nothing wrong with walmart bbs if you want your hopup to be turn to shreds by barely polished bbs.. Not to mention they are prone to jamming in tightbores.... Try weighing them and you will notice that their .20s for example and closer to .17s.. Hence tHe fps results.

I use Bastards exclusively, but I do have a use for Walmart Brass Eagle (in red) 0.12g, I load up the first dozen or so rounds in my MP5 mags as red .12s, then fill them with 0.28g. The sound changes when firing, the red BBs overhop, and is better than dry firing my gun (plus I've actually gotten kills with them too. Lol).

Cool the walmart BB's are now in the garbage, I'll pick up some .2 bastards at army issue before my next game.

That's an interesting idea having an almost empty warning to prevent dry firing.

Thanks!

Thanks, I've been using it for about 5 years now and it works great. I actually got the idea from some soldiers (Special Forces I think) actually loading 3 tracer rounds into their mags first to act as warnings of low ammo.

I've also used it when mag capacity rules are in play, if low caps are only allowed, and I have six 90rd mid caps (and four 50rd low caps), I'll load up 20 reds and the rest quality rounds, puts me roughly equal to Armalite low caps.

Ive personally used those crappy .20 bio BB's from walmart (cybergun brand i think, seen them advertised on other sites so i thought why not...BAD IDEA)

Jams? haha thats the consistancy with a tightbore, you will shoot blanks more than actual bb's w/o a FULL charge but even then they jam...

would have to switch from semi to full auto repedtly to unjam in the field then for a couple shots ok then jam again.

DONT use those bb's unless its for a SPRINGER lol, or just not at all

I didn't think walmart or CT had non-bio bbs that were over .12g polished. I seen the .2g black ones and they were unpolished. Then there were the kyfe .12g bbs, but you would have better luck with bread crumbs.
