i'm running on a 9.6v NiMH so i doubt it's that (the gearbox has an m170 in it FFS)

I'm pretty sure now that it's the shitastic body that's causing it (out of spec distance from top of mag catch to base of HOP unit) hence me applying the thin tin shim to get it up to spec.

i'll be a VERY happy bunny if that works, this is turning into an expensive money drain far too quickly.

EDIT: i've attached the shim, now of course it's too tight and won't catch the mag.. just a bit of grinding to get it down now!

quick update, while i have not got down to the exact reason for the problem i have found it's solution,

I swapped out my DBOYS body for a Classic army metal body that i had around and it sorted _every_ problem that i was having out. (fires perfectly, no skips at all) just need to chrono it to confirm the quality of the air seal.

i believe that everything will be ok on this dboys IF i use the gearbox shell and metal body together (i was using a drop-in systema gearbox)

i will try to build an m4 out of a spare classic army gearbox i have to see if that will work, othewise i'll gut the spare and put all the parts into the DBOYS gearbox.

oh, and it works flawlessly on 11.1 lipoly now too i guess the speed of the gears was just increasing the problem rather then being part of the problem.

meh, i wanted the SPR front end, wasn't under any illusions as to what the QC of the gun would be

just a warning to anyone else, if it's dboys, just don't

i'll still see if i can cobble together a m4 without having to strip the gearbox, i'll report back what i have to get this gun going for future record.

thanks for your time Amos and everyone else, all replies were/are appreciated!
