Well, that's what UCP was supposed to be... and failed miserably.

IMHO AOR1+AOR2 is much better, but I agree that MultiCam is closer to universal than most other current camos.

Since when did the Russians fully adopt Multicam anyway? I could've sworn they were still using the shitloads of Flora, VSR and plethora of other camos they have. I thought only elite units like ALFA, Vempel and VDV GRU sported Multicam?

Russians don't make camo in the normal sense, they make paper tear away uniforms in every camo, dress in layers of that and plan their mission accordingly.

"The US Army announced this morning that it will begin fielding Multicam ACUs to forces flowing into Afghanistan as soon as this summer"

Does anyone have a source saying they are ditching UCP for this? It reads to me like it will only be issued to units on OEF, not haiti, etc. Even the headline states it was only approved for OEF.

Should be Interesting to see what happens with OTVs and the like though.

The troops that were fielding MC were provided with plate carriers and other kit in MC...

I can imagine the same will happen for anyone being kitted out with MC, and the current UCP kit will be held for everyone else.

I mean when they come home, those'll be some collector's pieces.

According to an article on ArmyTimes and a few other sources, it appears it's not a done deal yet: a recommendation was made to the secretary of the army, who still needs to make a decision and announcement.

Every source reporting this has also seemed to stress this was for troops in Afghanistan, so it seems UCP isn't becoming a collector's item just yet. This seems to be a result of the (late) John Murtha push to issue more effective camo to troops in Afghanistan. As quoted on one site:

Quote:
The lawmakers directed the Pentagon to “take immediate action to provide combat uniforms to personnel deployed to Afghanistan with a camouflage pattern that is suited to the environment of Afghanistan.”

IMO this may be a stop gap measure to accommodate the need for a better camo in Afghanistan, using what's pretty much COTS product, until a more definitive "replacement for UCP" is adopted (again, I'm thinking of A-TACS and AOR1/2)
