1911 safety function
Does it seem stupid to anyone else that my Army Meu can only be put on safe after the slide has been racked???

Nope, that's how 1911's (single action) work.

So please educate me then. In the safe zone all I would be required to do then is to remove the mag?

Can't fix my own guns. Willing to fix yours.

the hammer must be cocked for the safety to work, so either make sure the hammer is down, or put the safety on

Well, if you're required to remove the mag then do it. But if it's not cocked, it wont be able to fire (single action only).
I never use my safety, I just remove the mag, pull the trigger, and put the mag back in. (I use a TM Hicapa) |

same, but dont try that with a mac 11, lol, with my old TF 11, i could remove the mag, and somehow it could still fire once or twice, with just residual pressure left in the gun itself
