There are some confusions regarding the JG HK416 evolution.

To the best of my knowledge there are 3 generations:

Gen 1 HK416: Released late 07/early 08: Thin shell black metal mechbox, using TM V2 design. Plastic Bushings, torx screws on all sides. Internals are standard TM-clone with ball bearing-spaced bevel gear. Notorious for anti-reversal latch that pops out, as well as pressure-deformed mechbox in some cases (i.e, when you apply screws back on the pressure actually clamps harder on the gear, making shimming a very annoying job). This is the version that Tokyo Seven reviewed.

Gen 2 HK416: Released somewhere between early 08 and 3rd quarter 08: Same as Gen 1 but WITH metal bushings.

Gen 3 HK416: Released after 3rd quarter 08. Important changes including MOSFET unit, Systema/G&P type Reinforced V2 mechbox, changed sector gear and tappet plate design, silver wiring, redesigned RIS secure method (VFC?). Torx screw and phillip screws on mechbox. This is the version that I commented on at the end of T7's review.




Sometimes some retailers will refer to Gen 3 as "2nd edition/generation", since Gen 2 changes are so small, that they're really just "version 1.5"

My metal JG HK416 is ~4 kg empty. With grenade launcher and optics, 5 kg.

i used to own a Gen2 version and all i can say is holy crap what a gun. Very powerful out the box and fiered nicely - only complaint was a wobbly RIS on the front and the stock hop unit was typically erratic but it was a really durable gun and it hit damned hard

There is actually a way to decrease/eliminate the wobble, invented by STOY from Airsoft NZ: Cut a coke can, and wedge it between the RIS and the out-barrel.

Was the wobble a gen 2 only thing? As neither of the 2 gen 1s I've held (mine included) have had any wobble at all.

I only own the Gen 1 and Gen 3. I assume Gen 2 HK416 is shares the same design as the Gen1. But since ASSUME makes an ASS out of U and ME... I could be wrong

The Gen 1 RIS wobbles unless you tighten the single screw HARD - but you then run the risk of breaking that piece of screw if you fall down or cause massive shock to the RIS. So wedging it to stop it from moving is more ideal.

Not really sure my HK416 gen, but the RIS actually has a small tounge that goes into the upper body so there is no wobble

Mine's a gen 1 (bought it very shortly after the jg 416 came out) and it has the tongue, also the whole front end is solid as the real thing (accept the hex screws nut striped too easily on me)

Does the little nub stick out from the upper receiver? or is it on the RIS? It's been a long while since I worked on one of those and can't remember.

I thought it stuck out from the upper receiver...but I'm getting old and forget things...

You had to play around with the delta ring, either by putting in a spacer or taking one out. I sold mine awhile ago, but IIRC the RIS was held in place by a long screw, which slid through the groove on the delta ring.

I thought it stuck out from the upper receiver...but I'm getting old and forget things...

Sticks out from the metal rail on the upper receiver, about 2-3 mm, locks into top of rails.

Mine never had any issues with this, also, neither has spacers nor ever had, everything just fit solidly 100%.

Finally !! Mine arrived yesterday, it was Christmas in june !

Got to open it only late last night, so no pics or big analysis right now, but it does look good so far.

Pretty hefty, a slight, very slight wooble, I'll look into tightening it tonight, but, man, this thing feels good. Trades looked ok with a casual glance, the RIS is not that sharp (but will require covers anyways to avoid snags) and I do not regret one microsecond of going for the FMU.

Only one question mark, though, there is some kind of metal cylinder passthrough at the base of the full stock, that I have not seen in pictures yet. Anybody knows what it is ?

I'll try to post pics and a more in-depth look this weekend.

its for a push pin sling mount. thats on the 3rd gen jg 416 if im not mistaken
