Hate to beat a dead horse but for the people who claim to speak for servicemen everywhere, my fiance knows a soldier stationed with the 4-319/173rd Field Artillery(Missile tracking, he didn't get into too much more about his job) in Bamberg Germany, I just spoke with him gained his opinion on the matter of wearing unit patches;
"I'm not terribly familiar with airsoft but I get the jist of what you're saying. I personally feel deeply honored that someone takes it upon themselves to represent us. I think that many of the opinions you've told me that are out there carry a lot of weight. Someone pretending to be a serving member of the US forces outside of the game setting opens a whole other can of worms it takes the spirit away from what you're doing. That fact that you also represent the 173rd in a Vietnam setting is a great honor, the fact that there are people who acknowledge what we're doing and what we've done, well I can't find anything wrong with that at all."
Now this is one serviceman, in the US Army. But he's not the only one I've spoken to. During research for Vietnam, I've spoken to 3 vets that also had no compunctions about wearing unit patches. 2 of those did have issues with acheivement patches(marksman, combat parachutist etc etc), and I got the feeling that "Jageranimal"(WoW username) had the same sort of apprehensions.
But like the thread says this isn't a debate about the morals of wearing unit patches. I'm going to wear my 173rd patches, because I deeply respect the soldiers and the unit to which I'm putting an impression together from. That being said, I wanna see some more ACU pics of people! I'm just about to put together my OTV Interceptor order and want to see how any of you have laid out your loadout.
