They're kind of helpful but personally, I prefer just using an RDS. It won't show up on them so they won't know someone's targeting them and the RDS still work quite well (depending on what quality you get) outside in the sun. However, this is also the case if you get a good quality laser; it will work outside in sunlight.
If you want to slap one onto your gun for aesthetic purposes and/or feel like you might use it a little bit then get a cheap one. I don't really suggest spending tons of money on them though as their functionality isn't all that great.
