on G&Gs the dust cover is either magnetic or just a simple spring, (must be held down manually), and the G&Gs Ive handled have no apparent mechanism to retain the charging handle once released other than the spring, so yours should have at least a spring, though the spring does, admittedly, little good, as once the charging handle is racked the spring stretches out and is useless. But you should at least have a spring. you got gyped, son.
