If it's stuck like that, what you can do is grab the recoil rod from the front of the gun, tug it gently and try to wiggle it back into the right place. That usually at least lets the slide return to battery so that you can remove it and get the recoil spring back to the correct position.
It should be on the notch formed by parts on both the outer barrel and the front of the plastic feed ramp, not just resting up high right against the outer barrel.
