The kit on buyairsoft is made out of plastic.
The RPK kit you got is the same type as the one I got (except I got the AK-74 one), I bet. Light wood, reddish in color? Yes, be prepared to sand it, the pistol grip especially, which is crap, and which I replaced. I refinished the stock and handguards to look less toyish.
Removal of handguards - remove cleaning rod under the barrel by pulling onto the end that's towards the muzzle, downwards, and then out.
Find the screw under the gas port, remove it, and slide the gas port/pipe towards the front sight. May require some force. That will allow you to remove the top handguard. Slide the lower handguard retainer the same way as the gas port to remove the lower handguard. Will require some force as well.
And yes, there seems to be a lack of instructions online for this, had to find a way to do it myself.
