Speaking from experience, I'm left handed and have no problems switching the fire selector on Armalites, it's just a bit different because you either use your finger, or move your thumb around the pistol grip... Unless you're stuck on the M4, you could always look at going with an H&K gun, which features an ambi-fire selector.
