No, you should be fine with the parts. As far as battery goes, use the largest mah size you can fit into the gun. Sub-c cells will be anywhere from 1700mah nicad to 3600mah nimh. You're in a warm climate, so either will be fine.
9.6v would be the limit IMHO and 8.4v seems to work best with C.A. guns and their new 7mm gearbox.
