I wouldn't expect the gearbox itself to be damaged, probably only looking at rubber parts that may be affected (but very limited exposure may mean there was no risk at all), but your gears and even plastic parts are likely fine to run.

I have to ask, but... did you get the smell out? That thing sort of has to be right next to your face a little too often. I think you need to punch your friend.
