Here's one story I've read:

Crye Precision developed MultiCam with Natick Labs. Natick isn't the oganization that was or is tasked with finding a new camouflage pattern for the US Army. That was PEO Soldier. PEO soldier developed the ACU pattern, the commander of PEO Soldier liked ACU pattern, and PEO Soldier didn't even know that Multi-cam existed. The ACU pattern was adopted.

Multicam wasn't even on the radar of the people who were making the decisions. Looks like a matter of one hand not know what the other is doing.

Not the first time an organization burned mucho dineros to develop an inadequate piece of equipment, CF Tac Vest anyone? Still, ACU's starting to grow on me.
