If you're into more reality-based courses of fire, check out IDPA. Much more fun and they're not as uppity as IPSC guys LOL.

Using airsoft to train for IPSC may not be so farfetched since it looks like so many of them shoot with very light loads, in which case the recoil might come close to that of a propane running GBB. Can anyone confirm this? I also seem to remember a story about a Japanese chap who trains with airsoft as real-steel is banned at home, and goes over to the US competes in IPSC with a rental racegun. He seemed to place somewhere in the top 20.
