The second issue is the hammer release on the side of the gun. It doesn't fully disengage the hammer!? Which is a big issue, to me anywase.

GBB's will do that if the mag is not full of gas or when nearly empty.
Make sure you are keeping gas flowing into the mag until it starts to kick back out, or simply wait about 10-20 seconds. Just to ensure the mag is 100% full of gas.
Otherwise it must be something else.
