Do not cut spring. Just buy another.

If you cut it wrong it will dig into the spring guide and cause issues. The spring is flat ended for a reason to allow the spring to expand and "spin" on the spring guide. Cutting it is not advisable for this reason.

You might be able to buy a chronograph off someone on the forums since it might not necessarily be an AV required item.

Some stores may have them so do some online shopping before you drive.
