Search for the brand first, then narrow it down to the gun (looks, size, upgrades). There are tons of threads on what brands are better than others.

Just watch out.. Airsoft is a religion and people are swayed by selection bias.. but in general if many people say brand A, B or C is good then it typically is better than the others. My personal suggestion is if this is your first gun, pick something that is generic and can use most of the common parts out there (V2 gear box etc). If no one has the gun you are looking for (no reviews etc), then maybe it shouldn't be your first gun.
