greater fps allows you to run heavier bbs, which IF you have a good hop rubber will net more range.
But the barrel length and bore means VERY little to nothing.
A kriss vector with a 5" barrel gets 260ft of very accurate range at 1.34j (380fps) and using .28s
And a pistol with a good hop rubber can shoot 150ft pretty darn accurately with .32s and it only does 300fps on .20s

What you want is to use .28s or .30s, and get a really good hop rubber. You don't necessarily need to be at 1.48-1.60j to get that kind of efficiency on the .30s, but it doesn't hurt.
