You can always get rail that mounts to the side mount. Thats what a lot of Russian police n SOF guys do.
And what i've seen from a certain USA company is that the rail is not attached to the top cover, but is actually a replacement for the rear sight so it is stable.

Yes, I already have one. The issue with these side mounting options, is that they negate the locking mechanism for a folding stock, and makes the stock stick out the side all willy-nilly. My folding stock is just too useful to go without, which is why I'm looking for another option.
