For a metal flash hider a torch or gas stove burner works well because it a) loosens the glue bond and b) causes the flash hider to expand slightly.

With the judicious application of heat (real heat, not a hair dryer) the removal is trivial. Do strip the gun down first though...

If the flash hider is plastic, then boiling water for a minute or so should do the trick.

I've done both for the different materials and not damaged anything in the process.
