I've personally don't have a preference to one or the other. I will say I would rather have a stubby rather than a full length vertical grip, and I tend to lean on the side of an AFG but that's because it's what I have. That and I find it works better on a longer rifle.

I will agree completely with what Firestorm said, I'd rather take a VFG on a short gun. On something longer I would rather have an AFG or a slick rail for better muzzle control.

Either way the choice is up to you and I would say go for whatever feels the most comfortable. If you can get a cheap VFG give it a shot and if you don't like it no tears shed over wasted money. Basically what Firestorm said is bang on to my thoughts.
