Usually there is a spring that puts pressure upon the adjustable portion of the valve keeping it in place. I remember it being fairly easy to adjust back when using mine.
I would say try test firing it a bunch with a chronograph and see if there is any obvious shift in FPS from the valve moving. You could also carefully mark it to see if it is turning between test firing sessions.
