You should have no problem wearing a mouthguard over braces if you mold them over (I have a shockdoctor from canadian tire for 20$ that I use for Rugby, that I have to remold every month).
But as others have said stick with a mask as it gives you less hassle if you want to talk, along with the protection it gives the lower face.
