Laser (or other) Engraving of Plastic

Ive been looking into laser engravings a little, and am interested in how great they look.

however, this is almost exclusively for metal bodies, where the engraving becomes silver, since the surface paint is removed.

I have a cloudy gray VA36 body, which i intend to soon apply a layer of krylon black camo over, as seeing the bolt through the side of the gun really kills it for me.

obviously, engraving this would result in seeing the cloudy gray plastic under the removed camo paint. Im just wondering if anyones tried this or can provide an input on methods, or what to expect?
