you can get a classic army g36c for 450 plus shipping and its solid, i just got one recently and absolutely love it
the xm8 the older ones yeah, not great and impossible to find, although SRC now makes a gen3 xm8 thats gotten pretty good reviews, problem is not enough interest so the canadian distributor for SRC wont be bringing them in for a long time if at all
personally i stay away from any of the m4 variants, i just dont find them comfortable to shoulder, call me crazy, that and EVERYONE has one, g36 dont seem to see as many anymore as you used to
