I'll try to help via a post here...but it REALLY is easier in person. And I don't have my radio here in front of me...so this is a bit from memory.
I scratched my head a fair bit too before I figured it out.
General Operation:
- press menu...then turn station knob to cycle through the various menus (i.e. beep, backlight, VOX, etc...)....use the Enter key to go into that option, use the knob to change the setting (i.e. On to Off, blue/yellow/off, etc...)...press Enter to lock in your setting...press ESC/M twice to exit the menu.
- if you know the option number (i.e. VOX is #3)...you can press Menu, then key in 3 to skip to it...then the rest is the same to change/lock in the settings
I'm going to reference the manual I just downloaded from:
http://www.puxingradio.com/down.asp?...n&SortTypeID=9
To Save A Freq to a Channel
On page 11...you'll see the different displays for the frequencies/channels.
1. change displays by pressing the ESC/M key....you want to be on Frequency mode...the last display shown on Page 11
Ref. Page 13
2. punch in the Freq that you want...I'll use FRS/GRMS Channel 1 as an example.
- type in 462.562 (it'll put in a little 5 after the 2 automatically)....the display should show "462.5625".
- put that in for both the Tx and Rx (transmit and receive)
3. Press the Menu button once...then the ESC/M button once
4. Rotate the channel tuning dial to get to the memory location you want to save 462.5625 to (probably memory position 1

).
5. Press ESC/M once more to lock it in.
** I think at this point your screen may revert back to the Frequency display (as in Step 1)...if so, continue storing channels, continue with steps 2-5 until you're done. REMEMBER...turn the tuning dial to change the memory location, or else you'll save over the last one you just saved.
When you change the display (ESC/M button) back to the "Channel Name and Number" (page 11, first display)...you may lose the top line (i.e. CH 1)...but you should still have the lower line (CH-001).
When you change the display to "Channel Name and Freq" (page 11, 2nd display)...you may not have the top line, but you should see the lower line (i.e. 462.5625).
With either of those two displays you will see the memory location to the left of the display...i.e. M 001.
So...basically you do step 1 until you're on the right display...then repeat steps 2-5 twenty-two times until you've got all the FRS/GRMS channels in.
If you want custom names for channels...you need to use the software/cable to put them in.
Consider turning your power level down to L (low) vs. the default of H (high). On High it'll blast into other channels and some radios in close proximity may not get anything but static from you.
Changing the backlight brightness and timeout will help batt life.
Learn how to Lock it...so the settings don't get changed during a game.
Learn how to switch to dual channel mode...Page 10. It's quite handy for monitoring 2 channels and talking on just one of them.
Keep a little printout of the channel/freq list...and the channels taped to the back of your radio. It'll help if you accidentally change something in the field...and it'll help someone else out if they've messed up their settings.
DON'T FORGET to turn off gay shit like Beep, VOX, Voice.
Hope that helps...and if you're really stuck, it really does only take 15sec to do the above in person.
