well with BBM you should be able to silence the messages in a group... or at least not partake in the conversation. How its set up right now is you need to be invited to the group. Which means if you start asking people stupid questions they can be booted. Also the great thing about BBM is they can't message you privately if you don't accept the request from them. There for the chat is only limited to the group and thats it.
and as for it being used for chit chat... not what the group is intended for and again... could warrant a boot, if you want to chat with someone in the group take it to a private combo but they have to let you first.
