I take it you havent handled M14's.
They arnt at all heavier than an m16, comes with a metal receiver, and can easily carry the same amount of M14 mags as an m16.
V7 boxes are far superior than the V3's. The only weak link being the selector lever, which is plastic. (I replaced mine with metal)
