What about putting one of the knurled thread protectors that are commonly found on the MP5's. I know that I've used them before when I'm just looking for a clean finished look but nothing like a flash hider or suppressor.
I've used them on AKs. When I had my MP40 I just kept painting the orange barrel nut.
