From personal experience:
I've had both Propper and Tru-Spec ACU pants; the Proppers wore through the crotch and a couple other spots after less than 2 summers of once a week use, but otherwise fit well. The Tru-Specs I just got last fall, so have only used a couple of times, but the they feel somehow more... rugged. Almost heavier. However, the lower leg pockets are placed waaay too high; if you wear kneepads (and I do. Altas) the straps cover the pockets.
On the other hand: I don't know who used to make the US Army issued stuff, but I still have an M-65 field coat and BDU pants (both Woodland) that were issued to me 18 years ago. They're a tiny bit faded, but otherwise almost no wear showing. And these things went through basic training, camping trips, hiking, snowboarding, and paintball/airsoft, as well as being work-wear. Awesome stuff.
