Couldn't you just host this as a game on the PDW website? They have the playerbase, and as you said you already have players supporting your idea, just you'd want more. Run it as a game, keep leader boards on your game thread.
People are hating down on this, but as been said, Airsoft is what you make of it. Saying you're going to downgrade into knuckle dragging and what not because of a little competition is silly. There is generally a winner in Milsim games. However bringing prizes in for winners is probably not that good of an idea, as it'll breed cheating.
On top of that, he is only letting people know what he wants to accomplish. He's not out to try to change the trend or the way PDW plays.
