Does no one "bake" it on anymore with the aerosols?
With the method I was taught:
1. Wash with dishsoap (a clean base material is key)
2. Rough up the surface with a scotch brite pad. (to let the paint adhere to)
3. Dry off. (Pretty obvious, lol)
4. Put a LIGHT base coat on. When painting, don't worry about covering it in one shot, multiple coats will give you a far greater effect. It will also prevent runs.
5. After you get the coverage you desire, use a Matte clearcoat (2-3) for durablility, let each coat dry- follow #4 for the proper method- LIGHT coats!
6. Turn the oven on to the LOWEST setting- you don't want to bubble the plastic OR paint. leaving the door open at the top to "control" the excess heat. You only want to warm the layers, not get them bubbling hot to deform the plastic. (Mot much more that 5 minutes- remember- you want to warm the paint, not scorch it!)
If you want pics or an entire tutorial, lmk and I can pm them to you.
