I bough a 11.1v 5000mAh LiPo that is the size of a 8.4v for under 50$. That is the price most airsofters pay for a 2000mAh NiCD or 3000mAh NiMh.

Airsoft labeled stuff is about 100-130% overpriced compared to the same stuff, but sold in a hobby store.
+1, I just bought 2 4900mah 11.1v LiPos for 40$ each, and the 7.4v 1600mah LiPo's I use in my M4 are 9$ each!
The custom 9.6v 1500mah NIMH packs I needed for my AN/PEQ-15 were $45, and if that wasn't bad enough those jerkoffs added a cell on after cycling the pack so one of my packs only hold like 650mah

Individual cell balancing is another HUGE perk of LiPo cells

And LiPo's REALLY aren't that dangerous. The only 3 ways your can get a LiPo to blow up in your gun is:
a) Over current draw. firstly you'd need a pack under 20C, secondly you'd need to be shooting at least 400 fps with standard gears and a bad motor. And you can prevent the cell from blowing with a 10 cent fuse
b) Wires arcing. Ever tighten your buffer tube right onto your wires and burn out your battery? I know a few people that have. Anyway this isn't an issue when you upgrade your wiring harness to actual GOOD wire.
c) Puncturing the pack. Seeing as most LiPo's are in your stock, buffer tube, or ANPEQ, this really isn't an issue. And just getting shot won't do it.

The only other big LiPo issue is over-discharge, but that and most other problems won't make the cells blow until you charge them. And there's bags you charge your lipo's in to prevent your house from burning down.
