I think most of us operate under the idea that Tokyo Marui designed the original version 2 gearbox and as-long-as all other clones claim TM compatible everything will fit. And I guess for the most part my own experience confirms this idea.

However, with that said some companies offer parts made for the Classic Army gearbox. Now I’m not quite sure just what the differences are but in the US most wholesalers don’t bother to carry the Classic Army parts and depend on TM compatible parts to fit everything.

Example:

Modify offers both a Cylinder head for the TM version 2 gearbox and another part for the Classic Army version 2 gearbox.

In regards to cylinder porting I can’t tell you how many times I have opened up a JG gearbox from an M4 with a 363 mm inner barrel to find a non-ported cylinder in it!
