The upper rail is made of fiberglass-nylon composite on the real steel and the airsoft version. It is reinforced with metal tho. I felt the same way about the cocking lever wich seems really flimsy in plastic, so I've replaced it with the CA metal version :

At first I thought the ejection port was also plastic but by changing the cocking lever you'll see it is indeed metal.
Nothing much you can do about the bolt catch but the thing is so small and hidden, would you really pay something like 20$ to change it ?
Other than that, by changing the cocking lever, you'll be as close to the real steel as you can get ! Welcome to the world of modern composite firearms !
