De-Fogging Hat Mod for goggles and glasses!!!!
 

ok guys...here is a solution for those hot, humid days when your googles and glasses keep fogging up. I prefer to play with smaller glasses or goggles, can't stand the paintball stuff, so I came up with this mod and it works great!...plus it only costs about $15 not including the hat. I will list what you need and how to do it, pics will be at the end.

Here's what you need:

1) Baseball Hat - 1 .....cost is up to you
2) Computer Fan - 1 ..(I used a fan purchased from "The Source". It is a 12V DC, 0.09A fan...1.5" x 1.5" x 3/8" thick)...model# is: CFA124010MS....cost $10
3) 9v Battery case with on/off switch - 1 ...(purchased at "The Source" and on ebay)....cost $3
4) 9v Battery - 1 ...(will run this fan for around 30 hours continuose)
5) #8 x 3/4" automotive trim screws - 4 ....(from "Canadian Tire")...cost $1.50/set
6) Velcro Strapping - 1 box ...(purchased from "Canadian Tire")...cost$3

Here's the procedure:

1) Make a 1.5" diameter hole in the brim of the hat so that when the hat is on ur head the fan will sit just off of your forehead. Remove excees material on the underside of the brim so the fan will sit right on the brim plastic.
2) Drill 4 - 1/8" holes in the brim of the hat for the mounting holes on the fan.
3) Connect the wires from the 9v battery case to the fan...i use solder and heat shrink, but small electrical connectors work too, or i guess if you had too you could twist em and tape em...ur call.
4) Mount the fan to the underside of the hat brim using the #8 Screws....thread the screws into the fan housing slowly...take your time here or you might snap the fan case.
5) Make a slit in the hat trim ring inside the hat to run the wires through, i make the slit big enough to fit the 9v battery case through so that i can dissassemble the hat and wash it.
6)Attach the battery case to the size adjuster on the back of the hat using the velcro strapping. (I used tape in the pic..i hadn't bought the velcro yet...velcro works better..lol)
7)Run the wires inside the hat using the trim ring.

Now, when you wear the hat, and the goggles start to fog, you reach up, flick the switch, and the fan blows nice cold air at a surprising rate over and into the top of your goggles or glasses, de-fogging them almost instantly. This setup blows way more air than any paintball system i have used. This setup also doesn't weigh much and you wont even feel it on the hat when you are wearing it. Also, these fans are completely SILENT!!!, you will not be able to hear it running!

Goggle fans, home made and factory built... are nothing new.

This is just an interesting take on the problem. I like it, because if you've ever played outdoors, wearing a cap in the bush is like having a a sauna on your forehead. The added weight on the mask is an annoyance too, it's nice seeing the system independent of your eye wear.

I'm definately going to rig something like this up, as I find when there is no breeze, even shooting glasses will fog: and you can't exactly mount fans to those (though I'm sure someone, somewhere, has).

Yes ESS does have goggles with fans in them, so do my JT paintball goggles...this was so that i could wear smaller goggles as shown in the pics or safety glasses. Besides, in my humble opinion, paintball goggles and the like look ridiculous when wearing a baseball hat which is my choice of headwear. Large goggles are fine when wearing a helmet or boonie hat.
