Chrony'ing with White, Black, or Clear BBS?

I've recently gotten a new madbull chrony. The unit has an internal light source and all those wonderful bells and whistles, so the testing is done under a controlled environment.

Obviously through testing I've put different bbs through it. The usual whites, but then also blacks and the bioval clears.

Clears had many problems with reading, and gave strange readings when they did register. This got me wondering-with no conclusive evidence with this chrony, but I will keep testing-is there a difference in the displayed fps with a white or black bb.

Has anyone done any testing with this?

Personally I would imagine that if an issue was to arise it would be with the new black bbs, compared to the classic white bbs that we are used to using. If there was an issue I would guess it would simply be a n/a for a reading instead of a lower or higher fps.

In the same breath I understand the simple calculation is due to the bb traveling between a known space in x amount of time. Believe me, this is a simple concept which is not lost on me.

Where's Tys when you need him?......

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a "How to beat the radar gun" thread.

I'm busy...

Chrony's work on interrupting an IR light source on a receptor...so black and white should be the same. The sensor "sees" a shadow...or not.

Clear BBs are not really 100% transparent...so they should produce a reading as well. But perhaps they're scattering the light in an odd fashion.

Haven't shot the clears through a chrony yet...sorry.

+1 on the scattering light theory

Yeah that's what i figured it would be. Just wondered if anyone had any different information. I'm going to do some more testing with this chrony.

Madbull gen 1 and gen 2 chrono's are not reading biovals at all. I've tried dying them colouring them with white board markers. using other lights but nothing worked. I think you will need a field effect chrono, impact chrono, or a far more sensitive sensor
